ABOUT YOU

You will play a vital role in the development of preschool children of varying abilities, fostering a supportive and inclusive classroom community. The ideal candidate for this position will have a deep understanding of child development and a commitment to meeting the diverse needs of every learner. Creativity, patience, and a positive attitude will make the ideal candidate a valued member of our team as we nurture and enrich the preschool experience for all children in the program.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree.

  • Must hold an Alabama Teaching Certificate in Early Childhood Special Education and/or Deaf Education or Vision Impairment. Or valid certification in another state with ability to obtain reciprocity within six (6) months of hire date.

  • A minimum Sign Language Proficiency Level (SLPI/SCPI) of SURVIVAL PLUS upon hire.

  • Must provide documentation of sign language proficiency evaluation (SLPI/SCPI available through AIDB).

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's Degree in Early Childhood Special Education or Deaf Education or Vision Impairment.

  • One (1) year or more of classroom experience.

  • One (1) year or more of experience working with children with multiple disabilities.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Deliver instructional activities to demonstrate various instructional techniques, promote positive interaction, and provide appropriate practice of activities and skills, focusing on the desired learning outcomes.

  • Demonstrate understanding of the Alabama Developmental Standards for Preschool as evidenced by daily presentation of instructional content and lesson plans.

  • Collaborate with RISE Together preschool team from AIDB North Campus (Decatur, AL).

  • Willing to obtain certification in Early Childhood Special Education or Deaf Education, or Vision Impairment within thirty-six (36) months of employment.

  • Must acquire a Sign Language Proficiency Level (SLPI/SCPI) of INTERMEDIATE PLUS within twelve (12) months of employment.

  • Obtain and maintain CPR certification and First Aid certification within six (6) months.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to work independently, exercising discretion and good judgment.

  • Work with Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to develop and implement appropriate Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) on each student according to state standards and curriculum.

  • Plan and implement appropriate lesson plans, substitute teacher plans, etc.

  • Assist families in accessing other AIDB resources, providers, and/or school services.

  • Assist students in developing personal/social skills, which may include proper personal hygiene skills, interpersonal skills, etc.

  • Initiate, plan, and implement field trips as deemed necessary.

  • Deal with emergency situations in a calm and logical manner.

  • Be aware of individual students' medical needs, making sure appropriate office staff and other programs and school systems are aware.

  • Cooperate and communicate effectively and professionally all matters regarding students, regional center and AIDB, parents, teachers, administration, other personnel, and the general public.

  • Adequate physical mobility, including, but not limited to, performing the following functions as necessary for the support of students and selected curriculum: toileting, diapering or changing clothing, personal hygiene functions, feeding, transitioning students in wheelchairs or lifts, care and cleaning of equipment, facilitating recreational activities, and other functions as required.

  • Abide by the Educator Code of Ethics.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Regional Director.

  • Upon being offered employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB

    SALARY: $46,812- $62,346 Scale l1 Rank 2T (BS-Class B)

    $54,870 - $71,608 Scale l1 Rank 1T (MA-Class A)

    $58,413 - $75,673 Scale l1 Rank AA (AA Certification)

    Direct deposit is required. 187 Days

    This is an exempt position, and is not subject to overtime or compensatory provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
