ABOUT ALABAMA INSTITUTE FOR DEAF AND BLIND (AIDB)

Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) is the world's most comprehensive education, rehabilitation, and service program serving individuals of all ages who are Deaf, Blind, DeafBlind, and multidisabled and their families. Founded in 1858, AIDB serves more than 32,000 infants, toddlers, children, adults, and seniors with hearing and vision loss throughout Alabama each year.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.

  • Must be physically able to perform job.

  • Must follow all AIDB policies and procedures and state and federal laws.

  • Must remain awake and alert at all times.

  • Must be able to adhere to confidentiality requirements.

  • Must be able to handle emergency situations in a calm manner.

  • Must have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

    Alabama School for the Deaf (ASD) Student Life Advisor Position will require a sign language proficiency minimum entry level of Survival according to the AIDB evaluation system. All applicants must provide documentation of sign language proficiency or take a sign language proficiency interview (SLPI available through AIDB).

    POSITION REQUIRMENTS AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform duties in the absence of full-time AIDB staff as required for position including, but not limited to the following:

  • Must be able to work flexible schedule including morning, evening, night and/or weekend as necessary.

  • Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds frequently during work shift and lift more than fifty pounds with assistance or use of assistive device.

  • Assumes responsibility for student life program responsibilities when student life advisor is absent.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB

    PAYROLL: $10.20 hourly rate S1 Rank HS Scale
