Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) is the world's most comprehensive education, rehabilitation and service program serving individuals of all ages who are deaf, blind, deafblind and multidisabled and their families. Founded in 1858, AIDB serves more than 36,000 infants, toddlers, children, adults and seniors with hearing and vision loss throughout Alabama each year.

Our services literally span a lifetime including five campuses in Talladega, ten regional centers located in Birmingham, Dothan, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Talladega, Tuscaloosa, Shoals Opelika and Decatur with programs that range from early and senior intervention, traditional and nontraditional education services in residential and outreach settings and a manufacturing facility that is the state's largest employer of adults who are blind and deaf.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Regional Early Acquisition of Language (REAL) Project is a national effort currently established in two regions with two more regional centers in development. REAL South, located at AIDB, is the premiere agency working in collaboration with the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University. Once all four regions are established, they will work together to provide national professional development and resource dissemination efforts focused on early language acquisition for young deaf and hard of hearing children.

Reporting to the REAL South Director, the Administrative and Fiscal Assistant provides essential administrative, logistical, and financial support to the regional team and project stakeholders serving deaf and hard of hearing children aged birth through three years old.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of a high school diploma, GED or equivalent.

Three years of recent work experience in accounting or related field or zero to two years' experience with twelve hours of accounting related college courses.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Enter financial transactions into the appropriate computer software.

Examine documents for completeness, accuracy, or conformance to standards.

Access computerized financial information to answer general questions as well as those related to specific accounts.

Classify, record, and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records, using journals and ledgers or computers.

Code documents according to company procedures.

Compare computer printouts to manually maintained journals to determine if they match.

Monitor status of accounts to ensure that payments and receipts are up to date.

Operate computers programmed with accounting software to record, store, and analyze information.

Perform general office duties such as filing, answering telephones, and handling routine correspondence.

Order supplies for offices, camps and conferences.

Assist in travel to include, making reservations and completing requests to travel/reimbursements.

Prepare purchasing and receiving paperwork.

Reconcile and detect discrepancies found in records or reports.

Maintain records, reports, or files.

Reconcile or balance financial records.

Demonstrate working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Must think analytically, have an attention to detail and adapt well to change.

Demonstrate competency creating spreadsheets and managing large amounts of data.

Must be highly self-motivated.

Must be proficient with computers and Microsoft Office software

Proficient in Nextgen or Oracle.

Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Travel in state and nationally as needed.

Must obtain a SLPI proficiency level of Survivor within 12 months of employment.

Must obtain a SLPI proficiency level of Intermediate within 24 months of employment.

Handle sensitive or restricted information in a professional and confidential manner

Ability to communicate effectively.

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB

Scale C5 Rank 42 Salary Range: 19.91-23.93

This is a non-exempt position and is subject to overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
