As the Alabama Freedom Center for the Blind (AFCB) Administrative Assistant II, you will assist the Executive Director in daily operations of AFCB, assist staff with student intake, planning student/staff activities, completing purchase requisitions, billing and travel, and aiding with accessibility and accommodation issues.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED from an accredited school or program.
- A minimum of three (3) years successful clerical/office work experience.
- Proven experience to include Google G-Suite (Calendar, Sheets, Docs, Drive, Word, Excel).
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proven organizational and professional experience that illustrates self-motivation and the ability to exercise sound judgement and follow-through with minimum supervision.
- Illustrated experience which demonstrates diligence about detail and accuracy in work.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Structured Discovery immersion experience and/or completion of a Structured Discovery program.
- Five (5) years of successful secretarial/clerical work experience.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Prepare and process payroll forms, travel forms, purchase requisitions, letters, memos and other correspondence.
- Gather and organize data for reporting purposes.
- Prepare contracts and monitor available funds for outside and related service contract providers.
- Receive and handle inquiries from personnel regarding purchasing, payroll, travel requests, travel reimbursements, etc.
- Establish and maintain a filing system.
- Assume responsibility for maintaining necessary inventory of office supplies and materials, and
monitor equipment and facility maintenance.
- Conduct required safety drills and maintain all required documentation for safety compliance.
- Assist with coordinating meetings, visits, tours and events.
- Receive, screen, and route visitors and telephone calls, giving and gathering information
effectively for reference to the appropriate staff person.
- If no previous exposure to the Structured Discovery methodology, immersion training either within the AFCB or another Structured Discovery program will be required within the first 12 months of hire.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff; consumers and their families; program graduates; peers; advisory groups; and agencies such as the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services along with contemporary Structured Discovery Programs.
- Completion of AIDB online training on Deafness, Blindness, DeafBlindness and Multiple Disabilities within 12 months of hire. Must complete a Foundations of Visual Impairment e-learning course within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
- Must complete Orientation and Mobility class within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB."
SALARY: $17.78- $20.81 Rank S5 Scale 35 (High School)
Bi- Monthly Payroll (260 Days)
Direct deposit is required.
