This role provides direct services to the College Transition Programs (College Prep and Dual Enrollment), the Transition Coordinator, instructors, and students while demonstrating professionalism, confidentiality, compassion, and sound judgment.

ABOUT YOU

You will play a vital role to ensure that AIDB's culture of inclusion is reinforced and that college students and staff feel connected, recognized, and proud to be a part of the E. H. Gentry team. This will be accomplished by demonstrating flexibility, a positive attitude, and professional maturity.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent or above.
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communications.
  • Experience working with individuals who are Blind, Visually Impaired, DeafBlind, Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and/or other challenges.
  • Must have computer knowledge and computer skills in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and Google Suite.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to handle multiple tasks.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including early morning, late afternoons, and may include some weekends or overnight trips.
  • Valid Alabama Driver License and able to be insured by AIDB insurance carrier.
  • Access to a safe and properly insured automobile and able to provide proof of comprehensive automobile insurance for use on the job.
  • Physically able to stoop, bend, and lift twenty-five (25) pounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Sign Communication Proficiency Interview (SCPI) of INTERMEDIATE PLUS or higher.
  • Two years of experience in an educational, rehabilitation, or related field.
  • Associate of Arts or Associates of Science degree or above.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • A Braille proficiency level of 80 percent (80%) or better on AIDB's Braille evaluation system must be obtained in the first twenty-four (24) months of hire.
  • A Sign Communication Proficiency Interview (SCPI) of SURVIVAL PLUS according to the AIDB evaluation system must be obtained within the first twelve (12) months of hire.
  • A Sign Communication Proficiency Interview (SCPI) of INTERMEDIATE PLUS according to the AIDB evaluation system must be obtained within the first thirty-six (36) months of hire.
  • Complete AIDB online trainingon Deafness, Blindness, Visual Impairments, DeafBlindness, and Multiple Disabilities within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • Provide safe, reliable, and courteous transportation for individuals served. Transport students off-campus to participate in College Preview Day Tours, Academic Advising, Disability Support Services (DSO) Intake Interviews, and complete appointments at Admissions, Financial Aid, Housing, etc. Must transport service animals such as guide dogs.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork for travel, mileage reimbursement, purchase order requests, work orders, etc.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance and be punctual.
  • Must be able to interact with the public in a positive manner on the phone and in person.
  • Assist the Transition Coordinator and/or the instructor in teaching and supervising students during classroom instruction and college tours.
  • Assist Coordinator and /or instructors by providing input at students' program reviews and staffings.
  • Assist the Coordinator in providing materials in the accessible format to students on all E. H. Gentry's caseloads and staff.
  • Assist the Transition Coordinator with documenting accessibility concerns and solutions in the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities(CARF).
  • Operate copier, fax machine, and other office equipment.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including early morning, late afternoons, and may include some weekends or overnight trips.
  • Participate in all required in-service training sessions and workshops.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB.

SALARY: $20.37 - $24.51 per hour Scale C4 Rank 43

230 Days Direct deposit is required; bi-monthly payroll

This is a non-exempt position and is subject to overtime and/or compensatory time provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act
