Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) is the world's most comprehensive education, rehabilitation and service program serving individuals of all ages who are deaf, blind, deafblind and multidisabled and their families. Founded in 1858, last year AIDB served more than 36,000 infants, toddlers, children, adults and seniors with hearing and vision loss throughout Alabama.

Our services literally span a lifetime including five campuses in Talladega, ten regional centers located in Birmingham, Dothan, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Talladega, Tuscaloosa, Tuscumbia, Opelika and Decatur with programs that range from early and senior intervention, traditional and nontraditional education services in residential and outreach settings and a manufacturing facility that is the state's largest employer of adults who are blind and deaf

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


  • Bachelor's Degree with a concentration in accounting and a minimum of four years of successful work experience in accounting, administration, or related fields.
  • Thorough knowledge of the closing periods and year-end financial statements and a thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Must be able to think analytically, have attention to detail and adapt well to change. Ability to perform various bookkeeping activities to include data processing.
  • Must have experience creating spreadsheets and managing large amounts of data.
  • Ability to coordinate the activities of workers engaged in general accounting practices and database management activities.
  • Must be proficient with computers, Google and Microsoft Office software; including Word and Excel
  • Ability to handle sensitive or restricted information in a professional and confidential manner.
  • Must be highly self-motivated and have the ability to work well independently and meet time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers, customers, vendors, staff, school officials, managers and executives; to include individuals who have sensory loss.
  • Have a team player attitude and willingness to assist where needed and/or requested.
  • A sign language proficiency level of SURVIVAL according to the AIDB evaluation system must be obtained within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to the following: Coordinate accounting activities performed for OIA and the Foundation.
  • Responsible for Foundation financial accounting including preparation and distribution of interim reports and GAAP statements.
  • Responsible for inventory, accounts receivable/payable, and contract accounting activities.
  • Develop Planned Giving Actuarial reports, and monitor programs.
  • Develop Annuity payments, cash flow plan, and monitor all payments.
  • Develop plan and report on endowment earnings, allocations, and growth.
  • Coordinate restricted grants, financial information, and program allocation for budgeting and amending contracts from private, state, or federal funding sources.
  • Assist with the preparation of the operating budget for the Foundation.
  • Maintain records for grant revenues and prepare expenditure reports.
  • Prepare and/or review month end reconciliations for assigned general ledger accounts.
  • Receive, prepare, and post requisition requests, process accounts payable.
  • Audits and approves invoices and credit memos.
  • Remit payments, ensuring all documentation is in order for the external audits. Conduct internal audits, including accounts payable, and cash funds on Foundation purchasing documents for compliance with procedures.
  • Supervise all banking activity on all accounts.
  • Audit Foundation payroll and preparation of payroll tax reporting.
  • Responsible to the Treasurer of the AIDB Foundation for managing cash in bank and investments, including, pledge of assets, preparation of investment reports, income statements, financial statements, and other reports upon request.
  • Manage the selection process for external auditors and investment advisors.
  • Assist external auditors in the compilation of information.
  • Present financial statements, budgets, and other financial plans to the AIDB Board Trustees and AIDB Foundation Board of Directors.
  • Maintain the Grant and the Capital Projects Folders.
  • Assist with preparation of Foundation policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and/or review general journal necessary journal entries.
  • Manage student scholarships and faculty awards programs.
  • Provide management with financial information by researching and analyzing accounts.
  • Analyze information and reports for Merrill Lynch accounts, develop spreadsheets, and reports, and verify all documented information.
  • Develop and implement accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures and recommending changes.
  • Assist with all Office of Institutional Advancement special events.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

SALARY: $46, 696 - $62,289 Scale P1 Rank 50 (260 workdays)
