ABOUT OUR LOCATION
The Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) is located just minutes away from the Talladega Speedway, Highway 280, and from shopping and dining in neighboring cities such as; Trussville, Irondale, Pelham, Leeds, Alabaster, Chelsea, Hoover, and Westover. The NTID Regional STEM Center at AIDB has offices located in Talladega and Decatur.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The NTID Regional STEM Center (NRSC) is a collaboration between the National Technical Institute for the Deaf and AIDB. The NRSC serves twelve states in the Southeast, which includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. The mission of the NRSC is to promote STEM educational initiatives and career awareness for students who are Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing in primary and secondary schools.
ABOUT YOU
You will play a vital role in the development of a high school transition program (STEM Academy) for the southeast states that we serve. You will begin working with the STEM Academy coordinator to be trained on our current model in Alabama. Upon completion of this training, you will work with the STEM Academy coordinator to coordinate, develop training for future staff, and cooperatively maintain the existing curriculum for a site in the southeast. The curriculum will emphasize remediation of English, Reading, and Math in order to prepare students for the transition to college or other post-secondary education.
POSITION Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Master's degree required in Deaf Education from an accredited college/university.
- Must have a teaching certificate and be able to obtain an Alabama Teaching Certificate within thirty (30) months.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in English Language Arts, Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics in Deaf Education.
- A minimum SCPI proficiency level of ADVANCED is required upon employment.
- Must provide documentation of sign language proficiency evaluation (SCPI available through AIDB).
- Must be familiar with special education laws including IDEA.
PREFERRED Qualifications:
- Degree or teacher certification in English, Reading, and/or Math.
Position Requirements:
- Must be able to develop and maintain rapport with constituencies within AIDB as well as in organizations serving special student populations statewide, regionally, and nationally.
- Must be able to travel up to fifty (50) percent by car, train, or plane nationwide.
- Work a flexible schedule as needed including nights and weekends.
- Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB."
Salary: $64,863 - $84,351 Scale GI Rank IA
$69,054 - $89,162 Scale GI Rank II
230 days
This is an exempt position and is not subject to overtime and/or compensatory time
provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
