ABOUT THE ROLE

The Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Foundation, Inc. (AIDBF) maintains operational and investment accounts that provide for meeting of short term and long term obligations while maximizing growth and stability. Operational accounts will be designed to provide access to funds

adequate for meeting of short term obligations such as AIDBF budgeted operating expenses and

ongoing AIDB activities financed by the AIDBF. These accounts will also serve as short term depositories for all funds received by the AIDBF. Investment accounts are designed to provide long term investments of funds that are restricted to expenditures of principal as well as funds not immediately needed to fulfill current or budgeted obligations. All accounts, both operational and investment, are maintained and reported to the AIDBF Board, Executive Director and President through the Director of Foundation Accounting

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


  • Bachelor's Degree with a concentration in accounting and a minimum of five years successful work experience in accounting or auditing
  • Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements
  • Must be able to think analytically, have an attention to detail, and adapt well to change
  • Must have experience creating spreadsheets and managing large amounts of data
  • Must be highly self-motivated
  • Must be proficient with computers and Microsoft Office software; including Word and Excel
  • Ability to handle sensitive or restricted information in a professional and confidential manner
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing with sensory and non-sensory impaired individuals, co-workers, customers, vendors, staff, school officials, managers and executives
  • Team player attitude and willingness to help where needed
  • A sign language proficiency level of SURVIVAL according to the AIDB evaluation system must be obtained within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master of Accounting.
  • Professional accounting certification, including CPA, CMA, or CGA.
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting.
  • Experience in auditing.





PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Manage and maintain the recording and recognition of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of AIDB Foundation activities, including the preparation and distribution of interim reports and GAAP statements.
  • Responsible for inventory, accounts receivable/payables and contract accounting activities.
  • Develop Planned Giving Actuarial Reports, and monitor programs.
  • Develop Annuity programs, cash flow payments and monitor all payments.
  • Report on endowment earnings, allocations and growth.
  • Coordinate restricted grants, financial information, and program allocation for budgeting and amending contracts from private, state or federal funding sources.
  • Assist with the preparation of the operating budget for the Foundation.
  • Maintain records for grant revenues and prepare expenditure reports.
  • Prepare and/or review month end reconciliations for assigned general ledger accounts
  • Receive, prepare, and post requisition requests, process accounts payables.
  • Audits and approves invoices and credit memos.
  • Remit payments, ensuring all documentation is in order for the external audit.
  • Conduct internal audits, including accounts payable, and cash Funds on Foundation purchasing Documents for compliance with procedures.
  • Supervise all banking activity on all accounts.
  • Manage the selection process for external auditors and investment advisors.
  • Assist external auditors in the compilation of information for the annual audit.
  • Present financial statements, budgets, and other financial plans to the Executive Director, the AIDB Foundation Treasurer, the AIDB Foundation Board of Directors, and the AIDB Board of Trustees.
  • Prepare and/or review general journal entries when necessary.
  • Manage student scholarships and faculty awards programs.
  • Analyze information and reports for investment firm accounts, develop spreadsheets and reports, and verify all documented information provided by an investment firm.
  • Develop and implement accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures and

recommended changes.
  • Collaborate and work with all departments and units within AIDB to make sure they have a solid understanding of the Foundation's policies and procedures regarding requisitions and foundation accounting.
  • Provide all departments and units within AIDB quarterly reports of their own department and units foundation accounts so that they are aware of their spending and balances regularly.
  • Prepare all endowment stakeholder's annual stewardship reports each February/March.
  • Participate in all Investment and Financial Committee meetings of AIDB Foundation as well as the regularly scheduled Board meetings.
  • Assist with all Office of Institutional Advancement special events.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.



SALARY: $62,142- $82,893Scale P1 Rank 56 (260 workdays)
