ABOUT THE POSITION:

The E.H. Gentry Facility is one of the most distinct and comprehensive education and rehabilitation programs in the United States. You will be part of a dynamic team committed to a championship philosophy that underscores the genuine belief in the potential of all individuals.

This role provides direct services to the College Transition Programs (College Prep and Dual Enrollment), the Transition Coordinator, instructors, and students while demonstrating professionalism, confidentiality, compassion, and sound judgment. These programs prepare students who are blind, low vision, deaf, hard of hearing, and/or DeafBlind for success in post-secondary education. You will assist with academic instruction, community college partnerships, and student support services that build critical skills in self-advocacy, college navigation, and career readiness.

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic educator and advocate who believes in the potential of all students to achieve academic and vocational success.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.

  • Must possess excellent communication skills.

  • Experience working with individuals who are Blind, Visually Impaired, DeafBlind, Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and/or other challenges.

  • Must have computer knowledge and computer skills in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and Google Suite.

  • Must be self-motivated and able to handle multiple tasks.

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including early morning, late afternoons, and may include some weekends or overnight trips.

  • Physically able to stoop, bend, and lift twenty-five (25) pounds.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Sign Communication Proficiency Interview (SCPI) of INTERMEDIATE PLUS.

  • Two years of experience in an educational, rehabilitation, or related field.

  • Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree or above.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Braille proficiency level of 80 percent (80%) or better on AIDB's Braille evaluation system must be obtained in the first twenty-four (24) months of hire.

  • A Sign Communication Proficiency Interview (SCPI) of SURVIVAL PLUS according to the AIDB evaluation system must be obtained within the first twelve (12) months of hire.

  • A Sign Communication Proficiency Interview (SCPI) of INTERMEDIATE PLUS according to the AIDB evaluation system must be obtained within the first thirty-six (36) months of hire.

  • Complete AIDB online training on Deafness, Blindness, Visual Impairments, DeafBlindness, and Multiple Disabilities within twelve (12) months of hire.

  • Provide safe, reliable, and courteous transportation for individuals served. Transport students off-campus to participate in College Preview Day Tours, Academic Advising, Disability Support Services (DSO) Intake Interviews, and complete appointments at Admissions, Financial Aid, Housing, etc. Must transport service animals such as guide dogs.

  • Complete all necessary paperwork for travel, mileage reimbursement, purchase order requests, work orders, etc.

  • Must maintain a professional appearance and be punctual.

  • Must be able to interact with the public in a positive manner on the phone and in person.

  • Assist the Transition Coordinator and/or the instructor in teaching and supervising students during classroom instruction and college tours.

  • Assist the Coordinator and /or instructors by providing input at students' program reviews and staffing.

  • Assist the Coordinator in providing materials in an accessible format to students on all E. H. Gentry's caseloads and staff.

  • Operate copier, fax machine, and other office equipment.

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including early morning, late afternoons, and may include some weekends or overnight trips.

  • Participate in all required in-service training sessions and workshops.

  • Work cooperatively with other staff.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB.

    SALARY: C4-43- $22.03 - $26.52

    Direct deposit is required

    This is a non-exempt position and is subject to overtime and/or compensatory time provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act
