ABOUT THE ROLE

STEM Academy is a 3-week intensive, specialized program designed for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) high school students who will be entering 10th-12th grade in the Fall of 2026, or who are graduating in the Spring of 2026. The program is specifically designed to:

Close academic gaps and strengthen foundational skills in core subjects

Build ASL and English literacy through immersive, accessible instruction

Cultivate college readiness by developing leadership skills

Expand career horizons by exploring diverse STEM pathways and professional opportunities

ABOUT YOU

As the Dorm Aide, you will work closely with the Residential Lead and the NRSC STEM Academy team to ensure a safe, structured, and supportive home-away-from-home environment for students. You will support the residential team by fostering a community that encourages independence, social growth, and student success. The residential program operates seven (7) days a week during the summer, therefore, working hours will vary.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent.

Possess a sign language proficiency level of INTERMEDIATE PLUS according to the AIDB evaluation system.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience working with individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.

Prior experience in overnight supervision of youth in a residential or dormitory setting.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Provide direct supervision within the assigned dormitory, ensuring students follow bedtime routines, conduct regular bed checks, and supervise students during mealtimes and cafeteria escorts.

Assist students with daily living skills, including cooking activities, laundry services (washing/ironing), and personal organization.

Enforce dormitory rules fairly and respectfully while modeling professional dress, behavior, and social interaction skills.

Administer medication as directed with accurate record-keeping, escort students to the health center as needed, and respond to emergencies calmly.

Maintain prompt and accurate records, including the completion and submission of daily dormitory chronicles.

Work cooperatively with students, staff, and the Residential Lead to maintain a positive environment.

Perform housekeeping duties as needed and promptly report maintenance needs or damages to the Residential Lead.

Communicate effectively and professionally with all individuals, ensuring full access for those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.

Other duties as assigned.

Upon being offered employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB."

.SALARY: S1-HS- $19.88 per hour

Direct deposit is required.

This is a non-exempt position, and is subject to overtime provisions of the Fair

Labor Standards Act.
