Temporary NRSC STEM Academy Teacher Aide

ABOUT THE ROLE

STEM Academy is a 3-week intensive, specialized program designed for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) high school students who will be entering 10th-12th grade in the Fall of 2026, or who are graduating in the Spring of 2026. The program is specifically designed to:

Close academic gaps and strengthen foundational skills in core subjects

Build ASL and English literacy through immersive, accessible instruction

Cultivate college readiness by developing leadership skills

Expand career horizons by exploring diverse STEM pathways and professional opportunities

ABOUT YOU

This position will work with the NRSC STEM Academy team by assisting with daily activities, managing classroom or recreational logistics, and ensuring student safety. Training for teacher aides will be available, and there will be an allowance for additional paid time for team planning purposes. You will be assigned to either the instructional program or the recreational program for 3 weeks during the summer. The instructional program operates five days a week, while the recreational program operates seven days a week.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

Possess a sign language proficiency level of INTERMEDIATE PLUS according to the AIDB evaluation system.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Prior experience working with STEM Academy.

Possession of a teaching license or paraprofessional credentials.

Demonstrated knowledge of Deaf education and Deaf culture.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Carry out instructional duties under the direct supervision of the teacher and fill in for teachers when they are absent.

Reproduce materials, check papers, record grades, file, type, and perform other office duties such as copying and laminating.

Work cooperatively as a team with other STEM Academy personnel to best serve the students and participate in all departmental and program-wide meetings.

Perform lunch or dinner duty in the office and cafeteria as needed.

Transport and chaperone students on field trips and travel to and from various area locations.

Attend and participate in all training sessions, workshops, and in-services provided.

Use tact and friendliness with parents and non-staff personnel to maintain a constant positive public relations program.

Address emergency situations in a calm and logical manner.

Assist in any extracurricular activities assigned to the department.

Communicate effectively and professionally with all individuals, ensuring full access for those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.

Other duties as assigned.

Upon being offered employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB."

SALARY: SI-HS- $19.88

Direct deposit is required.
