Temporary NRSC STEM Academy Transition Aide

ABOUT THE ROLE

STEM Academy is a 3-week intensive, specialized program designed for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) high school students who will be entering 10th-12th grade in the Fall of 2026, or who are graduating in the Spring of 2026. The program is specifically designed to:

Close academic gaps and strengthen foundational skills in core subjects

Build ASL and English literacy through immersive, accessible instruction

Cultivate college readiness by developing leadership skills

Expand career horizons by exploring diverse STEM pathways and professional opportunities

ABOUT YOU

This position will work with the NRSC STEM Academy team by assisting with daily activities, ensuring student safety, and serving as a positive peer influence for participants. You will be assigned to either the instructional program or the recreational program for 3 weeks during the summer. The instructional program operates five days a week, while the recreational program operates seven days a week.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be at least 16 years old.

Must be currently enrolled in high school or college; high school juniors, seniors, and college students are encouraged to apply.

Must have volunteer experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Prior experience working with STEM Academy.

Knowledge of Deaf education and/or Deaf culture.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Assist STEM Academy leaders and staff by providing guidance and direction to students and assisting with general supervision.

Carry out specific program activities under the direct supervision of teachers and staff.

Work cooperatively as a team with all STEM Academy personnel to provide the best possible service to students.

Assist students during meals in the cafeteria and in public settings as needed.

Assist STEM Academy staff and students during field trips and travel to and from area locations.

Address emergency situations in a calm and logical manner.

Use tact and friendliness when interacting with parents and non-staff personnel to maintain positive public relations.

Assist STEM Academy staff in their duties to ensure a safe and effective learning environment.

Support and assist in any extracurricular activities assigned to the department.

Communicate effectively and professionally with all individuals, ensuring full access for those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.

Other duties as assigned.

Upon being offered employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB."

SALARY: SI-HS $19.88

Direct deposit is required.
