ABOUT THE ROLE

STEM Academy is a 3-week intensive, specialized program designed for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) high school students who will be entering 10th-12th grade in the Fall of 2026, or who are graduating in the Spring of 2026. The program is specifically designed to:

Close academic gaps and strengthen foundational skills in core subjects

Build ASL and English literacy through immersive, accessible instruction

Cultivate college readiness by developing leadership skills

Expand career horizons by exploring diverse STEM pathways and professional opportunities

ABOUT YOU

As the Recreation Director, you will collaborate with the NRSC team to design and lead a comprehensive recreation program that improves students' fitness and social-emotional functioning. The recreation program operates seven (7) days a week for 3 weeks during the summer, therefore, working hours will vary.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Possess a valid teaching certificate.

Minimum of 3 years experience in Deaf Education.

Possess a sign language proficiency level of INTERMEDIATE PLUS according to the AIDB evaluation system.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience working with STEM Academy.

Possession of a valid license in physical education.

Possession of a current lifeguard certification.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Serve as the lead for the recreation team, working directly with students and collaborating with NRSC STEM Academy staff.

Manage and assign staff shifts to maintain a balanced workload and high team morale across the 7-day schedule.

Create a recreation schedule that includes accommodations for students with varying fitness levels while maximizing staff for effective supervision.

Maintain accurate records, including incident reports, student behavior documentation (Positive Behavior System), and fitness assessments.

Synchronize with the academic team for smooth afternoon transitions and the residential team for evening transitions.

Teach students the principles of good sportsmanship and serve as a role model through professional conduct, appearance, and communication.

Use a variety of instructional strategies and digital tools tailored to the specific needs of DHH learners.

Provide on-site supervision to ensure a safe, inclusive, and effective learning environment.

Communicate effectively and professionally with all individuals, ensuring full access for those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.

Other duties as assigned.

SALARY: PH-01 $49.50 per hour

Direct deposit is required.
