ABOUT YOU

As the part-time E. H. Gentry Adult Education Instructor for evening classes, you will provide Adult Education evening classes at E.H. Gentry for 6 hours a week to adults with sensory loss utilizing a variety of instructional strategies and tools appropriate to the needs of the student. You will design lesson plans aligned with College and Career Readiness (CCR) Standards that integrate instruction across content areas while applying research-based instructional practices that incorporate the use of computers and other technologies. You will need to be knowledgeable of reading, writing, and/or math instructional strategies and provide GED preparation instruction. You will also develop lesson plans and follow appropriate curricula as determined by adult education assessment instruments; provide classroom supervision and management to ensure a safe and effective learning environment, individualized instruction to accommodate the individual student's intellectual and academic functioning levels; prepare and maintain adult education reports, and be able to communicate effectively with individuals who have a sensory loss.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Special Education: Deaf Education, Learning Disabilities, or related field.
  • Must possess a valid Alabama Teaching Certificate.
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of relevant and recent teaching experience.
  • Must be willing to work a flex schedule (weekday evenings or Saturday) and/ or provide in-class or distance learning opportunities according to the individual needs of students.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's Degree in Education.
  • Experience in teaching individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing.
  • Demonstrated computer skills and knowledge of instructional practices that incorporate distance learning strategies and platforms.
  • Proven ability to provide reading and language instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technology instruction that promotes daily digital literacy skills.
  • Experience teaching mathematics remediation/money management instruction.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Possess a sign language proficiency level of INTERMEDIATE PLUS according to the AIDB evaluation system (if hired to serve students who are deaf and hard of hearing).
  • Must participate in professional development opportunities related to an understanding of vision, hearing, and dual sensory loss along with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Must be willing to attend ongoing professional development.
  • Complete AIDB online training on Deafness, Low Vision, DeafBlindness, and Multiple Disabilities within 12 months of hire.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB."

  • $33.05 Bachelors
  • $38.74 Masters
  • $41. 24 AA
  • Direct deposit is required.
  • This is an exempt position, not subject to overtime or compensatory provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
