As the E.H. Gentry DeafBlind Coordinator, you will supervise, evaluate and coordinate the DeafBlind program, coordinate case management of students and consumers with dual sensory loss, monitor state-wide grants (ICanConnect [ICC] program and Alabama Initiative for Children and Youth who are DeafBlind (AICYDB).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Rehabilitation Teaching, or related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working with or providing services to consumers who are DeafBlind.
  • Experience regarding various communication methods used by individuals who are DeafBlind.
  • Must possess a sign language proficiency evaluation of INTERMEDIATE upon employment.
    Must possess a sign language proficiency of ADVANCED within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment
  • Must provide documentation of sign language proficiency evaluation (SCPI available through AIDB).



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in related fields.


POSITION RESPONSIBILTIES/DUTIES
  • Must be familiar with and capable of training Support Service Providers (SSP).
  • Ability to maintain effective partnerships with consumers, advisory groups, and other agencies.
  • Provide monthly reports on DeafBlind program and associated grants/projects.
  • Supervise, evaluate and coordinate the DeafBlind program.
  • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of curricula for the DeafBlind program.
  • Responsible for supervision of DeafBlind Program staff.
  • Provide leadership for the State-wide DeafBlind advisory group.
  • Develop, coordinate and monitor planning for personnel, budgets, and inventory for daily operation of the DeafBlind program.
  • Act as the program administrator for ICanConnect (ICC), approving applications/applicants and purchases via assessments; monitoring the budget allocation; preparing the quarterly reimbursement request for Finance and Accounting; and maintaining client records.
  • Provide training and professional development of the DeafBlind staff, evaluating their work performance.
  • Monitor periodic program reviews.
  • Develop and maintain strategic plan for DeafBlind program.
  • Complete reports as required.



POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Must complete AIDB online training on Deafness, Blindness, Visual Impairments, DeafBlindness and Multiple Disabilities within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • Must be able to demonstrate competency in Braille by scoring 90% on the AIDB Braille Skills Assessment within thirty -six (36) months of employment.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB.


SALARY: 260-day staff:

Rank Pl Scale 52- $51,518.00 - $68,726.00

Rank Pl Scale 56- $57,989.00 - $77,354.00
