As the E. H. Gentry Facility Student Services Aide III, you will provide and arrange transportation services to students for local and short distance appointments; assist students with money management through the use of the Student Management Account, local personal accounts, and with budget planning services; assist with bill paying and shopping for students as needed; maintain books for Student Management Account and Rodgers Fund Account, which includes posting, writing checks, receipts, making bank deposits, reconciling bank statements, and completing financial reports; maintain student prescription co-pay file, including collecting monies and making bi-weekly reports; screen all students for social services needs/interests; assist with locating housing locally, arranging utility deposits, and making arrangements and/or assisting students with moving; maintain a clothing closet of personal and household items; distribute cash/work experience checks; complete individual student monthly progress notes; provide life skills assistance; make revisions to student handbook and provide copies as needed; and attend program review meetings.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated skills to maintain the Gentry Student Management Account.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Thirty (30) to sixty (60) semester hours of college credit with the course of study predominantly in human services preferred.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Must have a sign language proficiency level of SURVIVAL PLUS according to the AIDB evaluation system within twelve (12) months and obtain INTERMEDIATE within thirty- six (36) months.
  • A Braille proficiency level of 80 percent or better on the AIDB Braille evaluation system must be obtained in the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
  • Complete E. H. Gentry Orientation to Blindness class within twelve (12) months of employment.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours as needed.
  • Required vicinity and occasional overnight travel required.
  • Must have knowledge of available community resources, especially resources for adults with disabilities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must possess a valid Alabama Driver's License.
  • Must have a safe automobile with comprehensive insurance for use on the job and provide proof of insurance.
  • Must be willing to transport individuals as well as service animals.
  • Must have a work record that demonstrates a high level of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Must possess or develop an understanding of cultures and needs of persons who are deaf, blind, or deafblind, ensuring all actions and decisions demonstrate a respect for and value of persons with sensory loss.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB

SALARY: $15.97 - $18.83 Scale C4 Rank 32

Direct deposit is required.

This is an exempt position, not subject to overtime or compensatory provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
