BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with blind and visually impaired. .

PREFERRED QUALIFICATONS
  • College and/or post-secondary training.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for school bus.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Must possess a Braille proficiency level of Proficient within 36 months of employment.
  • Alabama School Bus Driver License within the first twenty-four (24) months of employment. Must maintain yearly certification for Alabama School Bus Driver License and valid Alabama Driver License.
  • Experience in business, industry, occupational education, Work Experience Programs, job training programs, supported employment, job readiness or related area is desired.
  • Must be able to travel on a regular basis including times that might require an overnight stay..
  • Must complete a Foundations of Visual Impairment e-Learning course within the first twelve (12) months of employment
  • Must complete Orientation and Mobility Training within the first twelve 12 months of employment.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work in cooperation with the Work Experience Coordinator/Transition Teacher in the Work Experience Program and Summer Work Program (WEP/SWP) by reproducing materials, reviewing employment reports/papers, recording employment reports/grades, completing/filing reports (ADRS and AIDB), typing, delivering, copying, laminating, preparing schedules, answering phones, and performing other clerical duties. Prepare bulletin boards and displays.
  • Carry out supervision and instructional duties for WEP/SWP under Career Tech Director and Work Experience Coordinator/Transition Teacher direction, including on-campus and off-campus work sites.
  • Assist Career Tech Director and Work Experience Coordinator/Transition Teacher in coordinating job readiness, self-advocacy, and transition workshops for students.
  • Provide job exploration counseling and conduct situational assessments of students in Work Experience Programs to gather pertinent information such as job preferences, strengths, job accommodation needs, soft skills, quality of work, etc.
  • Perform Job Coaching, employment readiness, on the job training, job searches, employment acquisition, employment follow-up, and guarantee appropriate completion of job duties while student is in training.
  • Assist Career Tech Director and Work Experience Coordinator/Transition Teacher in the evaluation and enhancement of student work skills and program effectiveness.
  • Assist in the evaluation of the WEP/SWP through situational assessment of students at job sites and the collection of data from other individuals involved in the transition process.
  • Maintain current documentation for students participating in WEP/SWP (daily attendance, monthly progress reports, evaluations, time sheets, etc.). Ensure that all records related follow the Department of Labor guidelines for students.
  • Maintain calendar of scheduled appointments and share with Career Tech Director, Work Experience Coordinator/Transition Teacher, and secretary.
  • Develop and maintain employer relationships to facilitate training and employment opportunities for students (both during WEP school year and summer job placements). Assist Career Tech Director and Work Experience Coordinator/Transition Teacher with liaison activities between ASB and employers to assure mutual satisfaction.
  • Adhere to the stipulations outlined in the AIDB/ADRS Job Coach Contract.
  • Assist Work Experience Coordinator/Transition Teacher and other personnel with liaison activities between ASB and the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS) including but not limited to working with ADRS Vocational Rehabilitation counselors, ADRS Deaf Support Specialists (DSS), and Business Relation Consultants to enhance service provision.
  • Transport and chaperone students to WEP and SWP job placements, on field trips, and to other locations as needed. Overnight travel will be involved especially in relation to the Summer Work Program.
  • Assist in any extra activities assigned to the Career/Technical department.
  • Follow AIDB Communication Policy in communicating with the students.
  • Conduct self and dress in such a manner that sets a good example for the students.
  • Use tact and friendliness with parents, and all other non-staff personnel in a constant public relations program.
  • Deal with emergency situations in a calm and logical manner.
  • Attend departmental meetings, school-wide meetings, in-service trainings, workshops, conferences, and other staff development opportunities.
  • Work and communicate with Career Tech Director, Work Experience Coordinator/Transition Teacher, and other job coaches.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
