The Alabama Industries for the Blind (AIB) is one component of the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) which is the world's most comprehensive education, rehabilitation and service program serving individuals of all ages who are deaf, blind, deafblind, multi-disabled and their families.

AIB is the state's largest employer of persons who are blind or have significant disabilities. AIB has a manufacturing facility in Talladega, AL and Birmingham, AL. AIB also operates five Base Supply Centers in two states which are located on Redstone Arsenal, Fort Rucker, Anniston Army Depot, Robins AFB and Moody AFB.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Base Supply Center Purchasing Technician role will be responsible for purchasing materials, supplies, items for resale, equipment and other such goods and services as required in support of Base Supply Center operations with Alabama Industries for the Blind (AIB) by competitively shop all purchases through available sources to provide AIB with maximum potential for profitability.

ABOUT YOU

You will play a vital role with the Base Supply Center Store as you will be a part of the AIB team in producing high quality work. You will be required to perform your responsibilities in a manner that sets a good example for other employees to follow and demonstrate good leadership skills and demonstrate a good attendance record. You must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and deal with changes in work assignments. The work schedule may require overtime. Be available to assist with taking and entering physical inventories to include re-supply stock on shelves. Each employee should deal pleasantly and courteously with all of the AIB team to include coworkers, vendors, customers, Store Manager, Sales & Marketing Manager and the Executive Director. This will include telephone, written correspondence by email, and in person. You will establish vendor relations as related to Base Supply Center items. At the request of the customer and/or Store Manager, you will be required to provide the status of required items to include delinquent shipments by following up. Providing assistance in the development and maintenance of a system for securing products for Alabama Industries for the Blind through established buying guidelines. This position reports to the Store Manager, Anniston Army Depot.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Certificate.
  • Minimum (3) three years work experience in purchasing experience as it relates to industrial manufacturing and/or retail operations with general office experience or training.
  • Must possess computer skills in MS Office Suite 97 or later (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and a Google Account.
  • Must complete a criminal history background check and be able to gain access to the military base.



POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Must follow AIDB policies and procedures and to gain knowledge and maintain compliance with all AIB, Federal and State laws in relation to sales and purchasing policies and procedures.
  • May be required to attend conferences, in-service training and other functions.
  • Must possess general knowledge of office equipment and machines.
  • Must have the ability to gain knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR and DFAR) and the Master Solicitation as cited in Alabama Industries for the Blind government contracts.
  • Must be able to read, under, and order materials defined in contracts and agreements, particularly government contracts, orders, modifications, exceptions, amendments, waivers, and summaries.
  • Must possess basic computer training and working experience using office and inventory control computer applications. This will include the ability to develop and maintain a database of purchased material and provide information to customers and co-workers.
  • Must possess high organizational and time management skills and have the ability to handle sensitive or confidential information in a timely professional manner.
  • Must have the ability to process and record orders in a prescribed manner to complete sales, maintain sales histories, mailing lists and other historical data required for planning purposes.
  • Must have the ability to negotiate vendor warehousing, price reductions and other cost saving measures in order to competitively quote products to customers.
  • Must have the ability to develop and maintain a database of vendors to include price quotations, dates, quantities and price schedules of items purchased.
  • Must be able to generate procurement package and any supplemental documentation, to include the purchase order requisitions, and forward to management for approval.
  • Must possess or develop an understanding of cultures and needs of persons who are deaf, blind or deaf/blind, ensuring all actions and decisions demonstrate a respect for and value of persons with sensory loss.
  • Must attend Disability Sensitivity Training Class and successfully pass with a 90% proficiency on the AIB Sensitivity Assessment within the first six (6) months of employment.

SALARY: C5 39 $17.06 - $20.35

This is a non-exempt position and is subject to overtime time provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Payroll Schedule - Semi-monthly, Direct Deposit is required.
