As Administrative Assistant II to the Student Life Director for Alabama School for the Deaf (ASD), you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Student Life Department front office. Student Life works with students who are deaf and hard of hearing. ASD is committed to meet our students where they are. The right candidate for this job will have a passion for working with students and colleagues to ensure all students receive a world-class education.



ABOUT YOU

You will play a vital role in the lives of our students and be a part of the miracles that happen every day at AIDB and ASD. This will be accomplished by demonstrating flexibility, positive attitude, and professional maturity.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have minimum of 2 years successful related work experience, and good work attendance record.
  • Must possess a minimum sign language proficiency level of SURVIVAL within six (6) months of employment. INTERMEDIATE must be obtained within the first twelve (12) months of employment. INTERMEDIATE PLUS must be obtained within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
  • Must possess skills in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and have excellent organizational skills.
  • Must possess excellent knowledge of business English, punctuation, grammar, etc.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to take initiative, anticipate problems, propose solutions and follow through to meet goals of the school and department.
  • Must be professional, self-motivated, have the ability to exercise sound judgment and follow-through with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to deal with the public in a pleasant and effective manner while maintaining an effective working relationship with supervisors and co-workers.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working with deaf and hard of hearing individuals and possessing the ability to communicate through sign language.
  • A sign language proficiency evaluation of INTERMEDIATE PLUS on the first day of employment.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Must sign at all time on ASD Campus and ASD sponsored events.
  • Maintain and manage day to day operations in the front office of Student Life including handling and answering phone calls, maintain Student Life files, and outgoing and in-house correspondence as directed by the Director and Dorm Program Supervisors.
  • Maintain process and handle questions regarding Student Life Personnel payroll.
  • Create, maintain and manage Resident Advisors' work schedules.
  • Prepare all purchase requests, travel requests, check requests, bus requests, food requests, medicine requests, etc. for Student Life.
  • Responsible for maintaining AIDB Foundation Indigent Children's Fund account, monies and receipts (distribute as needed).
  • Prepare and process transportation information and parent letters for closed weekends and holidays.
  • Distribute as required, fire and tornado drill reports from dormitories and other areas as assigned.
  • Maintain all forms and office supplies used by Dorm Program Supervisors, Director, staff members and students in the department.
  • Maintain departmental inventory.
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops provided.
  • Must complete a Foundations in Deaf/Hard of Hearing E-Learning course within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB.

Hourly Rate: $17.09 - $20.00 ScaleS5 Rank 35 (260 days) Direct deposit required.

Annual salary based on hours scheduled to work each academic school year (230 days).

This is a non- exempt position and is subject to overtime and/or compensatory time provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
