AIB is the state's largest employer of persons who are blind or have significant disabilities. AIB has a manufacturing facility in Talladega, AL and Birmingham, AL. AIB also operates five Base Supply Centers in two states which are located on Redstone Arsenal, Fort Rucker, Anniston Army Depot, Robins AFB and Moody AFB.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Warehouse Clerk/Local Delivery Driver role will be responsible for the operation of our Alabama Industries for the Blind (AIB) Warehouse at the Talladega Manufacturing Plant. This will include receiving and issuing finished goods and raw material inventories. The Warehouse Clerk/Local Delivery Driver is responsible for the organization, upkeep and cleanliness of the warehouse area and delivery truck. Operation of the forklift to load or un-load vehicles picking up or delivering products or materials and transport products and raw materials with in the physical plant. This role will make all local deliveries.

ABOUT YOU

You will play a vital role in assisting manufacturing operations as you will be a part of the AIB team in producing high quality work. You will be required to perform your responsibilities in a manner that sets a good example for other employees to follow and demonstrate good leadership skills. Each employee should deal pleasantly and courteously with all of the AIB team to include customers, coworkers, supervisors, Plant Manager and the Executive Director. You must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and deal with changes in work assignments. You will load and unload various types of commercial trucks, preparing inventory for shipment to customers and processing sales orders for shipment. It will be responsibility to make any local deliveries or pickup of materials needed for the plant. You will need to be familiar with a manufacturing plant and the operations of a warehouse. This position reports to the Warehouse Supervisor - Talladega Manufacturing Facility, AIB.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Certificate
  • Minimum two (2) years shipping and/or receiving work experience in a warehouse.
  • Must possess a valid Alabama Driver's License and be able to be insured by the AIDB insurance carrier.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum one (1) year of work experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience operating a forklift.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience driving a mid-size truck or van.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Must follow AIDB policies and procedures.
  • May be required to attend conferences, in-service training and other functions.
  • Must possess general knowledge of office equipment.
  • Must possess computer skills in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and a Google Account.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting, moving, carrying, and handling numerous boxes weighing up to 60 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Operate material handling equipment to include a forklift and pallet jacks and be responsible for unloading freight carriers and placing products or materials into proper storage areas and vertical bin locations.
  • Operate material handling equipment to transport products and raw materials within the AIB physical plant.
  • Use requisition forms to pick raw materials from various warehouse locations and transfer the raw materials to various manufacturing departments.
  • Use Sales Order pick lists to pull finished goods or resale inventory from various warehouse locations, package, palletize, label and prepare for shipment.
  • Label and bar code inventory items.
  • Perform inventory cycle counts and perform periodic company physical inventory counts.
  • Through routine housekeeping by maintaining a clean and attractive working warehouse.
  • Palletize and stretch wrap goods for storage and/or shipment.
  • Manually load and unload commercial freight trucks or other vehicles at the AIB dock.
  • Must be able to generate and apply bar coding labels.
  • May be required to make local warehouse deliveries or assist with heavy loads with the Delivery Driver.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and route according to the established procedures.
  • Must be able to work in all areas of the warehouse that includes raw materials, finished goods, resale inventories, and office duties.
  • Must possess or develop an understanding of cultures and needs of persons who are deaf, blind or deaf/blind, ensuring all actions and decisions demonstrate a respect for and value of persons with sensory loss.
  • Must attend Disability Sensitivity Training Class within the first six (6) months of employment.

SALARY: $12.67 - $14.98 Scale C5 Rank 26

This is a non-exempt position and is subject to overtime time provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Payroll Schedule - Semi-monthly, Direct Deposit is required
