As a Substitute Teacher for Alabama School for the Deaf and Blind school system, you will be responsible for working in a specialized classroom. AIDB is a committed to meet our students where they are. The right candidate for this job will have a passion working with students and colleagues to ensure all students receive a world class education.

ABOUT YOU

You will play a vital role in the lives of our students and be a part of the miracles that happen every day at AIDB. This will be accomplished by demonstrating flexibility, positive attitude, agility, and professional maturity.



Position Requirements:
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be physically able to perform job.
  • Must follow all AIDB policies, procedures, state, and federal laws.
  • Must remain awake and alert at all times.
  • Must be able to adhere to confidentiality requirements.
  • Must be able to handle emergency situations in a calm manner.
  • Must have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB.



Alabama School for the Deaf (ASD) Teacher Position will require a sign language proficiency minimum entry level of Survival Plus according to the AIDB evaluation system.

All applicants must provide documentation of sign language proficiency or take a sign language proficiency evaluation (SCPI available through AIDB).



POSITION REQUIRMENTS AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs duties in the absence of full time AIDB staff as required for position including, but not limited to the following:



Substitute Teachers:
  • Assumes the responsibilities for instructing classes when a teacher is absent.
  • Assumes other responsibilities for that teacher during the time the teacher is absent.
  • Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during lunch and other activities.
  • Must have an Alabama Teaching Certificate or Alabama Substitute License.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Payroll: $12.00 Alabama Substitute License

$20.00 Alabama Teacher Certification or AIDB Retired Teacher with a Substitute

License
