ABOUT THE ROLE

The Social Worker will bridge the gap between school, parents, and home by working to engage, educate, empower, and support all families in becoming active partners in their children's education. This position will directly communicate with parents to identify needs and improve access to services, thereby improving students' academic performance and emotional well-being. The Social Worker will secure community resources to meet the identified needs. The Social Worker will work collaboratively with AIDB personnel, including administrators, school counselors, behavior specialists, and Regional Center staff.

ABOUT YOU The Social Worker creates opportunities for parents, schools, families, and communities to work together to create partnerships that ultimately lead to student achievement. You will provide direct and indirect services by coordinating efforts and resources to promote and support emotional, social, and academic success for students through stabilizing the family structure. As the Social Worker, you will assist with eliminating barriers that prohibit students from adequately accessing the educational environments.



BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the field of Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, or a related human services field.
  • One year of experience researching and developing networks of community resources.
  • Minimum of two years of experience providing service to internal and external customers.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in the field of Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, or a related human services field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in the administration of a human services program or experience conducting studies and analyses of programs, procedures, practices, and organizations.
  • One year of experience providing student support services to individuals with sensory loss.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Organize, facilitate, and conduct meetings and training sessions for staff and parents.
  • Assist parents/families with transportation needs for meetings and events.
  • Develop partnerships with agencies to facilitate the acquisition of community resources to meet student/family needs.
  • Conduct home visits to address identified needs.
  • Act as an advocate for students and their families in a variety of situations.
  • Collaborate and assist school staff and families with students.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and in collaboration with other staff members.
  • Demonstrate an aptitude to organize and complete tasks in a well-timed manner.
  • Submit accurate, timely reports.
  • Develop and maintain databases.
  • Must possess a valid Alabama driver's license.
  • Required travel in the vicinity and occasional overnight travel.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours as needed (for example two days' work hours 11:00 am - 7:00 pm.)
  • Complete AIDB online training on Deafness, Low Vision, DeafBlindness, and Multiple Disabilities within 12 months of hire.
  • A sign language proficiency level of SURVIVAL according to the AIDB evaluation system must be obtained within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
  • All other duties as assigned.


SALARY: $43,441 - $57,950 Scale D1 Rank 54

(187 Days)
