ABOUT YOU

As the ASL Instructor at E.H. Gentry, you will work with AIDB-wide employees that need to meet Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) requirements, employees that wish to continue their ASL skills, and E.H. Gentry students from all caseloads. You will work collaboratively with the SLPI Coordinator to ensure AIDB staff are getting ASL instruction that will assist them in meeting their SLPI requirements.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS


  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in American Sign Language, Deaf Education, or related fields.
  • Must provide SLPI document with level of ADVANCED PLUS or above.
  • Provide document that indicates thorough knowledge and experience using and teaching American Sign Language.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Masters in ASL Studies or related fields.
  • SLPI Level of SUPERIOR.
  • American Sign Language Teacher's Association certified (ASLTA)
  • Minimum of 3 years of ASL instruction.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Must have a sign language proficiency level of ADVANCED PLUS according to the AIDB SLPI evaluation system and be able to obtain SUPERIOR within thirty-six months of hire date.
  • Work collaboratively with the SLPI Coordinator to ensure AIDB employees receive appropriate ASL instruction designated to assist employees to meet SLPI requirements/expectations.
  • Follow a designated and appropriate curriculum specified for ASL Instruction.
  • Give ASL Instruction to E.H. Gentry students from Deaf, Blind, DeafBlind and General caseloads.
  • Use ECM to document E.H. Gentry students' progress and do monthly progress reports on EHG-ASL students.
  • Assist E.H. Gentry students in developing appropriate ASL fluency including language related social skills.
  • Implement and maintain a positive, learning environment conducive to E.H. Gentry students and AIDB employees.
  • Provide ASL immersion activities and experiences to new ASL signers.
  • Coordinate activities and events associated with Deaf Awareness, ASL Celebrations, Silent Lunches, et cetera.
  • Become familiarized with SLPI rating system and the area requirements of SLPI components.
  • Must participate in professional development opportunities related to an understanding of vision, hearing, and dual sensory loss along with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Must be willing to attend ongoing professional development, attend workshops, conferences and other staff development activities.
  • Complete AIDB online training on Deafness, Low Vision, DeafBlindness, and Multiple Disabilities within 12 months of hire.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB."

SALARY. $42,469.00- $64,413.00 MR-5B (Bachelor's)

$44,481.00- $67,417.00 MR-5M (Master's)

Direct deposit is required.

This is an exempt position, not subject to overtime or compensatory provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
