POSITION:Assistive Technology Trainer

Center for Assistive Technology Training (CATT)

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Must hold an Alabama Teaching Certificate and certification/endorsement in Visual Impairment, or hold an Alabama Teaching Certificate and certification/endorsement in Special Education and obtain Visual Impairment certification within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.

OR

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Technology or Information Technology or related field with

Two years of work experience in computer service, maintenance or repair field, including hardware/software installation and configuration preferred or course work/certification in computer technology.

Must have professional experience in the use of assistive technology for individuals who are Blind, Low Vision, and/or DeafBlind.
Must have experience working with individuals who are Blind, Low Vision, and/or DeafBlind.
Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Must be able to work independently and demonstrate a high level of productivity.
Must be able to travel on a regular basis and at the discretion of the Program Director.
Must demonstrate effective communication skills, both oral and written.
Must demonstrate efficient scheduling practices, both individually and in a team setting.
May be required to have access to a safe and properly insured automobile and provide proof of comprehensive automobile insurance.
May be required to have a current Alabama Driver's License and be able to be covered by the AIDB insurance carrier.
Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB."

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Consistently demonstrate a high level of professionalism across settings in which the CATT is being represented. This includes training sessions, state/regional/national conferences, and school systems.
Travel to identified and/or requested locations both within and outside of the CATT's dedicated region. This includes Local Education Agencies (LEAs) and Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) programs serving students who are Blind/Low Vision, as well as programs serving students who are Blind/Low Vision in Alabama and surrounding states.
Perform assistive technology services to include assessments, on-site visits to evaluate assistive technology needs, equipment recommendations, assistive technology equipment installation, technical support and training.
Provide instruction to educators, students, and parents in the area of assistive technology for Blind/Low Vision and/or DeafBlind.
Prepare and submit records and reports pertaining to the CATT's rendered services as needed to the American Printing House for the Blind (APH), AIDB, Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE), US Department of Education (DOE), etc.
Effectively collaborate with the CATT team, Outreach Coordinators, Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments, APH project partners, and CATT partner locations.
Maintain an organized filing/data collection system for reporting, materials requests, and training requests.
Accurately maintain/improve inventory process for assistive technology devices and software.
Attend and actively participate in all scheduled meetings for CATT and any other meetings at the request/discretion of the Program Director.
Keep current on advances in assistive technology for the Blind/Low Vision and make appropriate recommendations for new technology that will be beneficial to the advancement of CATT and those served within the program.
Coordinate and facilitate training events focused on the use of assistive technology equipment and software that are accessible to persons who are Blind/Low Vision.
Keep current on APH products including the various equipment specs, intended utilization, and the ways in which products will support educators, students, and parents.
Must be able to lift, carry, deliver, and set up/break down equipment and other related devices for training purposes.
Observe and uphold the Code of Ethics of the teaching profession.
Must communicate effectively and in a timely manner via email, phone, and other modes as needed.
Interact with and provide appropriate support to individuals who are Blind/Low Vision or DeafBlind and community and disability-related groups and organizations.
Attend workshops, conferences and other staff development activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.

SALARY:$56,445 - $74,875 Scale GI Rank IB (Bachelor)

$66,160 - $86,038 Scale GI Rank IA (MA-Class A)

$70,435 - $90,945 Scale GI Rank II (AA Certification)

This is an exempt position, and is not subject to overtime or compensatory provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
