This position will work in a specialized classroom on the Alabama School for the Blind campus with students who are Blind or Low Vision. The right candidate for this job will have a passion for working with students and colleagues to ensure all students receive a world-class education. The successful candidate will provide instruction to students in preparing for the ACT test in the Science content area; must demonstrate familiarity with the testing guidelines and requirements, forms and documentation, and procedures for taking the ACT test.

We are searching for individuals who will ensure that AIDB's culture of inclusion is reinforced and that students feel connected, recognized, and proud to be a part of the organization.



POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must hold an Alabama Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in science.
  • Knowledge of and experience teaching students using Braille.
  • Certification in Visual Impairment preferred.
  • Must be able to physically assist students, as required.
  • Prior ACT training is required and will be provided.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform ACT Boot Camp instructional duties.
  • Maintain classroom discipline.
  • Prepare and teach from lesson plans based on curricular guidelines.
  • Prepare and teach critical thinking skills as they relate to the subject area.
  • Be able to implement and design technology for the visually impaired to meet individual needs.
  • Protect confidentiality of student information.
  • Maintain required records and conduct ACT Boot Camp follow-up surveys.
  • Participate in all ACT training sessions and workshops prior to camp.
  • Deal with emergency situations in a calm and productive manner.
  • Responsible for the effective utilization of teacher aides within classroom setting.
  • Work a flexible schedule.



SALARY: $39.91 hourly



Direct deposit is required.

This is an exempt position, and is not subject to overtime or compensatory provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
