A Resident Advisor for Helen Keller School of Alabama is responsible for providing the highest level of front line care for our students. Our Resident Advisors make effective decisions and solve problems using sound judgment, guided initiative and teamwork.

ABOUT YOU

You will play a vital role in the lives of our students and be a part of the miracles that happen every day at AIDB. This will be accomplished by demonstrating flexibility, positive attitude, agility, and professional maturity.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED from an accrediting school or program.
  • Must possess a sign language proficiency level of Survival within twelve (12) months of employment. Survival-Plus must be obtained within twenty-four (24) months of employment.
  • Must obtain CNA certification within the first six (6) months of employment and maintain during employment.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate Degree in Education or related field from accredited college/university.
  • One (1) or more years of proven work experience with individuals with multiple disabilities.
  • CNA Certification
  • Entry level of Survival Sign Language proficiency.



POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Must complete Deaf-Blind and Multi-Disabilities PowerPoint and check list within twelve (12) months of employment.

Must be available to work days, nights and weekends.
  • Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds frequently during work shift and lift more than fifty (50) pounds with assistance or use of an assistive device.
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication.
  • Must be willing to participate in continuing education and in-service training.
  • Must adhere to AIDB confidentiality requirements.
  • Must be physically fit to assist with special needs of students who are in wheelchairs or are physically disabled.
  • A willingness to learn and implement new programs and technology.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the HKS Principal, Student Life Director and Student Life Managers.
  • Instruct, guide and coach Student Life students to obtain proficiency in their Expanded Core Curriculum (Independent Living) skills.
  • Ensure that all students' Expanded Core Curriculum data is accurate and up to date.
  • Identify and interpret trends in student Expanded Core Curriculum data to support the individualization of student goals.
  • Work in collaboration with Academic staff, Student Life Advisors, Managers and the Adjustment Specialist to ensure the continuity of Expanded Core Curriculum skill achievement between departments and dormitories.
  • Must assess and monitor progress in the Expanded Core skills in the residential setting such as: daily grooming skills, laundry, etiquette, good communication skills and health and safety.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB.


MANDATORY ANNUAL TRAINING:
  • Behavior Management Certification
  • CPR - every 2 years
  • Blood Borne Pathogens
  • Using an AED
  • Medication Administration
  • Mandatory Reporting - DHR
  • Policy and Procedure Review
  • Erin's Law
  • Jason Flatt Act
  • And any AIDB and State certifications required.



SALARY: $21.60-$26.00 C1 43 (High School Diploma/GED with Education Related 60 Semester Hours)



187 days



Direct deposit required.



This is a non-exempt position and is subject to overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
