POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years successful experience in a school and/or residential setting required.
  • A sign language proficiency level of INTERMEDIATE according to the AIDB evaluation system must be obtained within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
  • Possess a valid Alabama Driver's License and a CDL with an Alabama School Bus Driver's License or must be obtained within the first twelve (12) months of employment. Must maintain yearly certification for Alabama School Bus Driver's License.
  • Must complete Deaf-Blind and Multi-Disabilities PowerPoint and check list within twelve (12) months of employment.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB."


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • One (1) or more years of proven work experience with individuals with multiple disabilities.
  • Entry level of Survival Sign Language proficiency.



POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist the Teachers and Transition Coordinator to determine community opportunities for life skills experience.
  • Assist in evaluation of transition and life skills of student performance.
  • Assist in maintaining records related to the Department of Labor guidelines for students participating in off-campus training.
  • Maintain records to show student progress.
  • Complete paperwork, as assigned.
  • Assist with the students' community experience participation.
  • Provide training to students while students learn to perform life skills in the community.
  • Prepare reports, as directed.
  • Assist transition assessments and review existing assessments.
  • Assist in the development of transition skills (functional, soft skills and work experience skills).
  • Work cooperatively with other school personnel to best serve students.
  • Provide temporary job-related support services needed by the student to maintain employment.
  • Assist in the development of IEP/transition goals.
  • Transport and chaperone students to off campus transition opportunities.
  • Assist in the supervision and training of students.
  • Assist in the development of transition plans.
  • Complete professional development.
  • Attend all meetings, as requested.
  • Perform duties needed to insure the successful implementation of transition services for students with disabilities.
  • Attend work schedule consistently and punctually.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned by HKS Academic Director and Principal.

This is an exempt position, and is not subject to overtime or compensatory provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act
